Things Are Tough at the Best of Times—We’re Here to Make It Easier for You, Not Harder
Hello there. I’m Constance Grayson, and I’m really glad you’ve found your way here.
After working in the UK’s charity and community sector for over 20 years, I’ve noticed something wonderful: some of the most powerful changes happen in the most ordinary places. Around kitchen tables where neighbours decide enough is enough. In community centres where someone puts up a hand and says “I’ll help with that.” In conversations between people who simply refuse to accept that things can’t get better.
I’ve also noticed that these everyday heroes often face exactly the same hurdles as the big charities when it comes to getting funding—but without the resources, jargon dictionaries, or dedicated teams to help them navigate it all.
That’s why Third Sector Support Solutions exists. We believe that good ideas, genuine commitment, and real community need should be able to access the resources they deserve—whether your paperwork comes on fancy letterhead or you’re still figuring out what a “case for support” actually means.

What We’ve Learned Along the Way
Over the years, I’ve been privileged to help more than 140 organisations get started, and I’ve worked with over 400 groups to develop ways of bringing in sustainable income. We’ve worked across every sector you can think of—sport, disability, dance, music, justice, children’s services, ethnic communities, education, health. You name it, we’ve probably helped someone doing amazing work in that area.
The thing that strikes me every single time? The size of your organisation has absolutely nothing to do with the size of your impact. Some of the most transformative work I’ve witnessed has come from small groups who spotted something their community needed and decided to do something about it.
The mum who started a support group for parents of children with additional needs. The retired teacher running literacy classes from her front room. The group of friends who turned a scrap of wasteland into community allotments. The cultural organisation keeping traditions alive whilst helping new arrivals to the UK feel at home.
These aren’t just nice stories—they’re the backbone of strong communities. And they deserve the same quality support that helps them thrive.
Understanding the Real Challenges
Let me be honest about something: the funding world can feel pretty intimidating. There’s the jargon, the complex forms, all those unwritten rules about what funders actually want to hear. It’s enough to put anyone off.
I’ve seen brilliant ideas never get off the ground because the people behind them didn’t think they were “professional enough” to apply for funding. I’ve watched passionate volunteers give up on game-changing projects because they couldn’t work out what the application was actually asking for. I’ve met incredible community leaders who assumed funding was “for other people”—the ones with proper offices and glossy websites.
This genuinely breaks my heart, because it’s simply not true.
Good funders want to support good work, full stop. They want to see real need being met by people who understand their communities. They want authenticity, passion, and clear thinking—not corporate speak and expensive branding.
The problem isn’t that grassroots organisations can’t get funding. The problem is that the system hasn’t always been designed with them in mind.
That’s what we’re here to help change.
How We Work Differently
We Start Where You Are: Kitchen-table volunteer group just getting started? Established charity looking to grow? We meet you exactly where you are. No assumptions, no cookie-cutter approach.
We Actually Make Things Easier: This isn’t just our tagline—it’s our promise. Life’s complicated enough without us adding to it.
We Speak Human: Plain English, honest conversations, practical advice that makes sense in the real world. The jargon stays at the door.
We Get Grassroots: Small doesn’t mean less important. Community-led doesn’t mean unprofessional. We know that the most powerful change often happens at the most local level.
We Understand Cultural Context: Whether you’re serving a specific community, preserving traditions, or bridging different worlds, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities you’re working with.
We Focus on Fit: Instead of trying to squeeze you into the wrong funding box, we help you find opportunities that actually match what you’re already brilliant at.
What We Actually Do:
Need Funding?
We know the problem. You’re doing amazing work, but writing funding bids? That’s a whole other skill set. Some applications take hours, others take weeks. Larger bids often need detailed business plans that can feel overwhelming when you’re already stretched thin.
That’s exactly where we step in. We’ve built up solid experience in preparing funding applications, helping to raise millions of pounds from all sorts of sources. Whether you need help with one major application or support to get a whole funding programme going, we can help.
This includes working out your story (what funders call a “case for support”), researching potential funders who might actually be interested in what you do, and rolling up our sleeves to help with applications. We can also take a look at bids you’re planning to submit yourself and give you honest feedback.
Our Approach to Fees
We try to keep things straightforward and cost-effective. We believe in being upfront about costs—no nasty surprises. When you tell us what you need, we’ll work out the most sensible way to get it done, even if that means we earn less.
Because here’s the thing we can’t say often enough: if you’re a non-profit, writing successful funding bids can feel impossibly complex and time-consuming. But it’s also one of the most cost-effective ways to raise money when you get it right.
Understanding Specific Communities
One area where we’ve developed particular experience is supporting Punjabi and NRI organisations throughout the UK. Having worked with many groups in these communities, we understand the specific challenges they face and how to help explain their unique value to funders effectively.
Cultural organisations often do incredible work—preserving culture, supporting integration, providing vital services—but may struggle to translate this impact into the language that mainstream funders understand. This is exactly the kind barrier we’re here to help break down.
What Success Actually Looks Like
Success isn’t just about the grants we help you win. Success is:
- The volunteer group that grows from a good idea into something the whole community depends on
- The cultural organisation that gets funding while staying true to who they are
- The established charity that finds funding aligned with their values instead of having to compromise
- The community leader who gains confidence to think bigger
- The passionate individual who discovers they really can turn their vision into reality
- The network of local groups that start supporting each other and sharing what they’ve learned
Success is communities that are stronger and more connected because the good work happening within them has the support it needs to flourish.
A Personal Commitment
After more than 20 years doing this, I’m still convinced that the UK’s communities are full of people with brilliant ideas, generous hearts, and the determination to make things better.
What I also know is that good intentions and hard work aren’t always enough. Even the most passionate community groups need practical support, strategic thinking, and access to resources that match their ambitions.
I don’t just talk about community commitment—I live it. I sit on boards of charities that align with my values, where I can contribute something useful. I practice what I preach because I genuinely believe in what the third sector can achieve.
Ready to Have a Conversation?
If you’re reading this thinking “this sounds like what we need,” I’d love to hear from you.
Maybe you’re a brand-new group wondering if your idea could actually work. Maybe you’re a cultural organisation struggling to access mainstream funding. Maybe you’re established but feeling stuck. Maybe you’re somewhere in between—experienced but uncertain about next steps.
Wherever you are, we’re here to help. And we’ll make it easier, not harder.
It starts with understanding your story: what you’re trying to achieve, what’s working well, what feels challenging, and what support would make the biggest difference right now.
From there, we can explore how we might help you move forward with confidence.
Because your work matters. Your community deserves your success. And every organisation—from kitchen-table beginnings to established charity—has the right to thrive.
